Penn Foster CEO Speaks on the Need for Federal Government Support of Career and Technical Education

Published on timesleader.com
Penn Foster, a leader in career-focused online and hybrid education designed to address the skills gap in America, announced its CEO Frank Britt testified this morning before the House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education to discuss how the federal government can help support state and local initiatives to modernize and advance career and technical education (CTE).“As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of online instruction in CTE, we believe we are well positioned to offer our take on ways to revitalize funding, delivery, and promotion of this vital but often overlooked component of education,” said Frank Britt, CEO of Penn Foster. “We have six recommendations we think will revolutionize the future of CTE and position students for lifelong success.”Britt was invited to speak by the subcommittee’s chairman, Rep. Todd Rokita, as the subcommittee continues to discuss the re-authorization of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, which provides federal funding for CTE. His recommendations for improving CTE included embracing digital learning approaches, such as hybrid and online learning, to accommodate students’ schedules and allow them to complete their education on their own time.

Britt also emphasized the importance of middle-skilled or blue collar fields, which are expected to provide nearly eight million job openings in the coming years.

Through online and hybrid learning options in its high school, college and career school that prepare students for in-demand fields such as welding, engineering technology and veterinary technology, Penn Foster aims to help its students to fill these middle-skilled job openings.
